What is the need that is linked with our core pain?

In Emotion-Focused Therapy, it is common for a therapist to ask questions that identify your core pain. The most painful aspect of what you experienced.

Once we jointly decide what your core pain is, after several sessions. The therapist will ask questions about what that pain needs. This core pain is linked with a basic human need.

Universal Human Needs

  • empathy

  • acknowledgment

  • connection

  • protection

  • compassion

  • validation

These needs are important.
